A trail map you can read with cold hands
Wayfinding system, print maps, and a members site for a volunteer trail-building group.
Brand Identity · Campaigns & Print · Websites
the challenge
Two hundred miles of trail maintained by volunteers, documented in a Google Doc. Members had no way to find work days, and hikers had no way to find the trails.
the approach
A typographic identity built on a single condensed face that works carved into a trailhead sign or printed on a fold-out map. The site runs offline-first, because the trailheads don't have signal.
the outcome
Membership grew 40% in a year. The printed map sold out its first run and funds a full-time trail crew lead.
